General Information

I/O Drivers for the Development and Run-time Environments

Customers who wish to develop an application using an I/O device must purchase the Development Environment driver software for the I/O device for use on the Development Environment system. The Run-time version of driver must be purchased for Run-time systems. For example, if a customer wishes to develop an application using the IEEE-488 interface, they must purchase WC9255-JDV for the Development Environment and an appropriate quantity of WC9255-JRT for the Run-time systems.

Development Environment Software Maintenance

Software Maintenance for all Development Environment software is 12-months pre-paid at the time of sale. First year maintenance is not optional. Maintenance for subsequent years is optional but must be ordered for a 12-month period or greater and must be prepaid. A site ID will be generated for each Development Environment and this ID will be associated with the Run-time software.

Run-time Software Maintenance

A prerequisite for Run-time software maintenance is Development software maintenance. Maintenance on Run-time software provides a right-to-copy authorization. The customer will be supplied a single copy of new software releases for the PowerWorks Development item under software maintenance. If a customer is purchasing subsequent Run-time software licenses, the original PowerWorks Development Site ID must be referenced.

Software Utilities

WU9260-JDV -- Fault Resilient Monitor Development License

The Fault Resilient Monitor (FRM) allows a user to build a flexible fault-tolerant configuration on two PowerMAX OS systems connected by a TCP/IP network. Processes running on each system can poll and respond to polls, and provide confirmation that each system is available. Should one system fail to respond to a poll, the FRM registers an ft-event. Users can also associate a corresponding ft-action with any ft-event. When the ft-event is registered, the appropriate ft-action is executed. The ft-action is user-defined and can be as simple as reporting the ft-event or as extensive as a full reconfiguration of the software running on a system. ft-events are registered whenever a system fails to respond to a poll.

In addition to ft-events associated with system availability, ft-events can also be generated by the change-of-state of an individual network port or application processes. ft-actions may be associated with these events to provide for fault-tolerance of individual application processes and of the network itself.

Full control of a fault-tolerant configuration is supported, including the setting of individual poll intervals and time-outs for each system. An on-line GUI provides for the display of system status and the implementation of configuration changes

Prerequisite: WA9200-JxDV (PowerMAX OS Development Environment).

Drivers

WD9245-JMDV -- Virtual Partition Development License

The Virtual Partition product supports Striped and Mirrored disk partitions. A Striped disk partition, also known as RAID 0, allows a data file to span multiple physical disk drives. Striped partitions provide better disk throughput by allowing large I/O transfers to be simultaneously active on multiple disk drives.

A Mirrored disk partition allows I/O operations to be simultaneously enacted on a mirrored copy on another physical disk drive. Also known as RAID 1, a Mirrored partition results in increased system availability by providing automatic failover to a second disk drive when a primary drive fails. Failover occurs when a single disk write error or a configurable number of disk read errors occur on one of the drives. When failover occurs, PowerMAX OS automatically causes I/O commands are issued only to the correctly operating drive.
